Turnford Junior Tournament
The U10/11/12 Blue Squads headed to Hertfordshire to pitch themselves against some of the best clubs inthe country at this formidable tournament.
Both the U10's and U11's were unable to progress to the knockout stages with both teams getting a really tough draw and having the eventual finalists in their groups.
The U12's had a fantastic day and overcame a huge hurdle by beating Essex Open in the quarter finals; not a team they've beaten before! Next up were the eventual winners, Turnford in the semis and although the girls put out a great performance, it just wasnt quite enough to come away with the win.

MK Netters Annual Tournament
Congratulations to our U10's to finished runners up to a very strong Turnford team. The girls showed great versatility in the High 5 competition and despite some falls and tumbles the girls battled hard accross the whole day. Well done girls!
The U11's also had a great day finishing fourth by just 1 goal in the 3rd/4th playoffs. On an unusally warm day, the girls were running on empty and couldnt have done anymore. Coach Helen Turton was really proud of the girls!
The U12's had a really tough group and despite putting together some great performances they narrowly missed out on the knockout stages finishing third in their group. Nevertheless the girls had a fun day and took home some things to work on at training. Many thanks to mum Elaine who stepped in to cover coaching of the girls.

Their prize was presented by Olympic Judo star Ben Fletcher. Great to have the whole squad in attendance and watched on by proud parents and coaches Jo and Sarah.
Report from Maidenhead
Sharks and Crazies could not be divided this week with a very close game throughout ending in an 18 all draw. Red Rockets started off slow against Meister but picked up the pace and were drawing by the end of the 1st quarter, Meister then came back and by half time it was 24-19 to them, Red Rockets drew level again in the last quarter but a quick turnover right near the end saw Meister just pip Red Rockets to the win 33-30. Bluebirds continued with their solid season 36-12 winners against The Crew and nobody can stop Woodley who this week beat Whistle Warriors 39-20.
Well done to our U15 White squad who are absolutely bossing it this season in the Maidenhead league!
Conratulations to Millie Whitehouse, Lauren Dos Santos (U14 South Region Squad) and Lucy Shedden (U13 South Region Squad) who have been graduated to Satellite 1 academy to join Charlotte Richards (U13 South Region Squad) who was selected for the upper tier following trials in the summer.
Big shout out too to Heather Maxwell and Millie Whitehouse who were selected to participate in a County Academy play day alongside U15 Livy Edwards.
Great to see positive progression from the girls!
Half Term Camp
The U14 Blues ran a half day netball camp for years 4-7 as a awy of fundraising for their 2017 trip to Eurodisney netball tournament. 21 youngsters turned up full of energy, some who are already members of Woodley netball club but some from local schools who are just keen to learn and have a go!
Coach Jo, assisted by Elaine, ran a mix of drills and skills which tackled footwork, different ways of getting free for the ball and the basics of chest and shoulder passes. The U14's did some hand on coaching, helpingto demonstrate, giving feedback and encouragement and leading a team each in the matchplay sessions, helping the girls with everything from switching bibs to remembering where they were allowed on court! They also did a demonstration half court game whilst the youngsters had a 15 minute snack break, where the speed at which they play and the strength of their passes did cause a few little jaws to drop to the floor!
The U14's also discovered a creative side producing this representation of the "Woodley netball family"!
All in all it was a great fun afternoon and hopefully we have some new budding netballers in the Woodley area as a result. It is something we hoe to repeat at February half term so keep your eyes peeled for dates!
Berkshire & South Region Wins All Round
The U13 South Region squad kicked off the 100% winning weekend with a comfortable victory over CD Phoenix in East Grinstead. The squad put out a great performance to win 43-16; Player of the match was deservedly awarded to Ines Braithwaite. The U14 South Region squad followed a little later in the day albeit in the same vain and came out 55-33 victors with a much improved performance from their last fixture. Congrats to U13 Katy Head who played up for the U14's and was awarded player of the match.
Next up in the South Region were our U19 and Open squads who were lucky to be playing closer to home. The Open girls were really solid for 60 minutes and secured a good 55-42 win against Bucks Phoenix. The squad and opponents both awarded player of the match to Donna Hancock. U19's took on local rivals, Royals, and despite being just a squad of 8 they managed to keep going for the victory. Congrats to Melissa McAlpine on her consecutive player of the match award.
Our U10 Blue squad, competing in division 2 of the U11 Berkshire League this side of Xmas, kicked off another winning streak by thrashing local rivals Eagles 19-2. Looking good for the future girls! The U12 Blue squad backed this up with a 21-10 win over Wokingham and despite it not being the girl's best performance they battled hard to not give away a point! Well done to Grace O'Neill on her player of the match award; well deserved for her many interceptions.
Next up in the Berkshire League were our U13 Blue squad who are progressing nicely having taken the step up to division 1 this season. The girls put out probably their best performance to date to beat tough opponents Finch 40-30. Awesome shooting from Molly Upton saw her awarded with player of the match. And finishing off the day and weekend nicely was the trusty U16 Blue squad who beat a nippy U14 Rushmoor side 59-16. Captain's performance from Eloise who was rewarded with the player of the match award.
Karen thinks this is must be the best weekend of results ever so well done to all girls involved and hopefully you've already got your feet up!
A big thank you to all parents who have scored, timed or simply cheered the girls on this weekend; they and the club could not do it without you xx

Congratulations to the U12 Blue squad who were runners up at the annual Poole Netball Club tournament.
The girls had a great day, losing only to Poole Gems (the eventual winners), by just one goal. The girls won all their remaining 8 matches and did everything they could to try and win the tournament. Tough to lose the tournament on just one goal, but a fab squad effort - well done girls!

South Region Leagues Underway
Great start to the weekend with both junior squads winning their opening clashes against tough opponent, MK Netters. U13's sitting pretty at the top of the table and U14's narrowly behind local rivals on goal difference in second spot. Well done girls!
The U19's squad had a long trip to face tricky opponents, CD Phoenix. A close fought game for three quarters with the opposition pulling out a really strong last quarter to secure victory.
Super pleased for our Open squad who managed to secure a win in a really close game against Trinity. After a tough 15-16 season, it was great to see the girls back to winning ways!
More England Success
Congratulations to ex Woodley junior, Sophie Drakeford-Lewis (now with Clan), on her re-selection into the U19's National Academy squad. Fantastic achievement and we're all really proud of Sophie's continuing success!

Swan Fastnet Open Tournament 2016
Swan NC hosted a Fastnet tournament at Crestwood College as part of the build up to the 2016-17 season.
10 teams took part and each game comprised of 4 quarters of 6 minutes to make use of the rolling subs using the new EN rules. The 10 teams were divided into 2 pools of 5 and everyone played all the teams in their pool. The top four in each poolthen played quater finals, semis and finally the final and in line with the Olympic theme, teams were provided with gold medals for the winners, silver for the runners up and a new netball for the bronze winners.
It was a brilliant day and the weather was kind and the sun shone after a windy start. Our newly formed Open squad were delighted to run out the eventual winners and the girls played some fantastic netball throughout the day - well done ladies!
Exciting news today with ex Woodley junior, Fran Williams (now with WP Blades), announced as a squad member of the new Superleague franchise headed by Tamsin Greenway. Such a strong squad and we look forward to watching Fran from the Surrey Sports Park stands!
South Region Entry Route Rallies
The U13 and U14 squads headed to East Grinstead on the Saturday to attempt qualification for the South Region league. Both had lots of games ahead of them as a result of the largest ever entry to the tournament - great news for netball as a whole in the south!
Despite a couple of minor injuries being picked up the U13's had a phenomenal day winning all 15 of their games and managed to not give away any points to their opponents. The girls were shocked but delighted to have qualified as winners.
A depleated U14's squad had a slightly tougher day in West Sussex, just missing out to Eagles and Team Matrix but despite these losses and some more minor injuries, the girls managed to qualify in 3rd position overall.
Bring on the 24th September and the start of the season!
The U16 national winning squad of 2015 came out of semi retirement to partake in the U19 competition and despite the rustiness and sore feet the squad managed to qualify in 5th position. Well done girls!
Unfortunately the U16 squad had the toughest day at the office on Sunday and despite their best efforts, the girls were unable to squeeze into the top 8 and narrowly missed out on qualification. With many of the squad being a year younger, it bodes well for qualification next season.
It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our very dear friend Gillian Frackelton who died peacefully after a short illness on Thursday 1st September at the Royal Berkshire Hospital with her family at her side.
During the 48 years that Gillian has been a member of Woodley Netball club, she has taken on the roles of Secretary and Chairman. She also mentored many Woodley & Berkshire’s umpires with great success. Gillian was a star first team WD in her early netballing career, playing for Berkshire County as well as Woodley & she continued to play until a few years ago whenever a team was short. Gillian went on to be a talented Panel umpire umpiring at the highest level, including travelling overseas.
Gillian was devoted to netball and volunteered countless hours to mentoring and umpire development within the South Region. She was part of the Officiating Technical Support Group for the South and did a great job arranging B tests for umpires. She recently received special recognition from Netball South for her outstanding contribution to netball in the region over many, many years. Gillian also held the position of President for Berkshire County which gave her great pleasure.
Gillian had an amazing sense of fun and will be fondly remembered for her outrageous outfits at the Brean Sand Tournaments with her fellow Woodley Netball Club friends. There was always an element of surprise, and boy did she surprise us with her huge talent for fancy dress & her interpretation of the theme for the weekend.
We all loved Gillian and will miss her deeply but we will never forget the wonderful memories we have shared with her. She will be remembered by so many players, but especially all the umpires at Woodley, Berks, & South who she's mentored & helped over so many years. Gillian will be sadly missed by all who knew her & we know you will join us in thinking of the family at this sad time.
Gillian’s funeral will take place at Easthampstead Crematorium on Wed 14th September at 12pm. There is no need to wear black as her family will not be doing so! Flowers to A B Walker, Eldon Road, Reading or alternatively donations can be made to Cancer Research directly or via the AB Walker website.
Everyone is very welcome to join the family at the Premier Suite at the Madejski Stadium after the service, as the family are all looking forward to hearing our wonderful Netball stories about Gillian.
A donation of£100 has been made to Cancer Research by the club.
The South Goalden Globe Awards 2016
The South region celebrated their volunteers in style on Saturday 2nd July at the Village Hotel, Farnborough. The awards ceremony started by celebrating the teams coming first and second in the South's Regional Leagues which included Woodley's U13 Blues. This was followed by the other awards which included the presentation of the Long Service Award to our own Gillian Frackelton who has been involved with the Netball South umpiring group for a great number of years!

These girls join Millie Whitehouse and Sara Lopez Pascual who were selected onto the first step of the performance pathway last season.

13th July 2016
To Caitlin Sonkur who passed her C award umpire assessment last night on a Div 1 summer league game.
Caitlin has worked really hard over the last few weeks since finishing her GCSE exams, to complete her theory and bleep test & has practised her umpiring on a variety of games over the last season to be ready for her assessment. We look forward to seeing her umpiring South Region games for Woodley next season and watching her progress towards her B award in the future.
6th July 2016
Woodley Netball held their Junior Presentation evening at St Joseph's College on Wed 6th July. It was a lovely evening & a fantastic opportunityfor all our teams to share in each other's successes over the season, as well as allowing the players the time to say thank you to all our volunteer coaches, team managers, umpires and committee members who do so much, & always with a smile, to ensure so many girls get to enjoy club netball.
Following a short speech by all coaches Most Improved Player & Coaches Awards were presented to 2 worthy winners in each squad. Well done to all our winners pictured and a big thank you to Tammy for organising the event and arranging for us to use a great new venue. In addition our thanks to Mars Confectionary for their welcomed donation of chocolate for presents and prizes!
Pontins!!! (Part 2)
Two U14 teams and a combined 15/16 team travelled to Brean Sands for another great weekend of netball, competing against teams from all over the country.
U14 blues had their hardest draw ever on the Saturday morning finding Bury, Oldham, Thamside and finally MK Netters just too strong for their small squad, but thanks to an U13 Blue player, Millie, for coming to help out the team over the weekend. Sailing through the other games with ease, the team qualified top of the plate, won all their games easily on Sunday morning and stormed to victory in the knockout stages to win the Plate competition; congratulations and well done to the girls.
The U14 Whites qualified high up in the plate competition after some tough games on the Saturday and went through unbeaten on the Sunday morningto the quarter finals. Thanks to Heather, another U13 Blue player for joining the team at short notice when injury struck again in this small U14 squad.
U15 and U16 girls from 3 Woodley teams got together to play in a strong U16 competition and over the weekend met or exceeded the targets set by their coaches Tammy, Debbie and Val, alongside lots of socialising at the fair and around the site with all 3 squads.
The U11 Blues, both U12 and U13 squads made the annual trip to Brean Sands for the last hurrah of the 2015-16 season. Players, coaches, umpires and chalet mums survived the Glastonbury traffic and indecisive weather and a fabulous time was had by all on and off the court!
Huge thanks go out to Chris Grainger and the team for another great tournament but most importantly, thanks so much to all parents and coaches who enabled the girls to create memories and have such a fab weekend of netball. Couldn't do it without you!
On their debut, the U11 Blues came through a very tough group on the Saturday to qualify for the cup tournament. The girls narrowly missed out on the knockout stages finishing 4th in their group on the Sunday. Some close games which could've gone either way on another day. Well done girls!
Also on their debut, the U12 Whites had a very tough group on the Saturday, which included the eventual winners. Narrowly missing out on the cup tournament the girls went through to the plate competition where they played superbly to reach the knockout stages. The girls stormed through the quarters to set up a semi final against a feisty Team Matrix side who they were unlucky not to defeat. Congrats girls!
With the target of getting further than last year's cup quarter finals, the U12 Blues put out some solid performances on the Saturday to win their group. The girls woke up all guns blazing on the Sunday to breeze through their group opponents in the morning to give them a favourable draw in the knockout stages.
The girls faced a tough Ribble Valley side, who they'd drawn with the day before, in the quarters but despite lots of end to end netball they managed to come through as winners by the 1 goal. Ryland Red were up next in the semis but the girls were dominant 11-1 winners to progress through to the final. Slippery and tricky court conditions put a dampener on both finalists netball unfortunately but the girls put in a magnificent effort against an incredibly strong Oldham team who just edged the tournament win. Amazing effort girls!
The U13 Whites had a mixed bag of results on the Saturday but to the girls delight their performances were enough to put them through to the cup competition again. The girls had some really tough games on the Sunday, including against the Blues, but despite this the team never gave up and kept smiling (even after a good soaking at the fun fair)!!
The U13 Blues had tough groups on the Saturday and Sunday morning but despite some challenging matches the team were able to secure a place in the knockout stages of the cup competition. Unfortunately, the girls were given the worse possible draw and were unable to get past the eventual winners, Oldham, in the quarters. Bad luck girls, but well done on reaching the busniess end of the tournament!
Fathers Day out in Essex!
(not at the Sugar Hut...)
The U12 Blues and U14 Blues and Whites travelled to Redbridge for the Essex Open tournament on Sunday where they competed with some of the best clubs from around the country.
The U12's were undefeated in their group fixtures and progressed through their quarter and semi finals without concern to reach the final where they again came up against their nemesis Turnford. The girls put together their best ever performance against their arch rivals and pushed them to the final whistle, narrowly losing 5-3. Getting closer girls!
The U14 Whites had a great day too progressing through their group undeafeated to reach the quarter finals. The girls narrowly missed out on the semis by 1 goal to the eventual winners, AP Saints, who defeated the Blues in the final. Well done both U14 squads!
A fantastic effort from all girls and thanks to Essex Open for another great tournament!
Woodley girls on the rally road again...
This Saturday the U13 Blues travelled to Hertfordshire for the Turnford tournament in order to pitch themselves against some of the best clubs in the country. The girls had a great day and were undefeated in their group games putting them through to the semi finals where they came up against a tough Turnford team. The game was a close encounter with the girls narrowly missing out on progressing through to the final. Good job girls!
Thanks to Turnford for another great tournament!
At the same time the U11 squads were participating in the Newbury tournament. Bolstered by a couple of U10's, the U11 Whites put out some strong performances with all of their group games being close hard fought games. The girls proceeded to the 7th/8th play off and came out comfortable winners to secure 7th place.
The Blues were formidable all morning with some high scoring group games to take them through to the final where they were eventual comfortable winners of the tournament. Well done girls!
Thanks to Newbury for great tournament!

11th June 2016
Another weekend and more tournament success for Woodley!
This Saturday the U12, U13 and U14 Blues squads were back at High Wycombe on Saturday to compete in the Bucks Phoenix Rally. The girls did really well to cope with the humidity and a severe rain storm and put together some fab netball throughout the day. Results were as follows:
U13's winners of the U14 plate
U14's winners of the U14 cup
Thanks to Bucks Phoenix for a great tournament!
