U16’s put on a great show

Congratulations to Woodley U16s Zoe Allanson, Terezka Littova, Phoebe Maslen and Sophie Peck for their performances at last weekend’s England U15 Performance Tournament in Wolverhampton. The tournament took place over 2 days at Wolverhampton University with teams from the 8 English Superleague Franchise clubs plus Superleague debutante, Leeds Rhinos, and an invited team from the North East.

Terezka and Sophie, playing for Surrey Storm, won three of their four Saturday Pool B games, including a very tight match against team-mate Zoe’s Mavs team to top the group and reach the Sunday semfinal against Pool A runners up, Leed Rhinos. Pool B runners up Mavs also qualified for the semis against a very strong Manchester Thunder squad who’d been unbeaten in winning Pool A. Phoebe’s Wasps team came third in Pool B which sent them into the Sunday place playoffs. The Storm – Rhinos semi was great match, with Storm coming through in the last quarter to win having been two down at half time. Thunder proved too strong for Mavs, easing through their semi to join Storm in the finals. Wasps delivered a strong performance on the Sunday, beating Loughborough Lightning, Severn Stars and the North East to end in 5th place overall. Mavs edged Leeds Rhinos by a single goal in a thrilling 3rd-4th place play-off to win bronze. Finally, Storm managed to hold Thunder to a 4 goal deficit at half time in the final before Thunder raced ahead in H2, leaving Storm with Silver. The standard of netball was incredibly high and all four of our girls delivered great performances despite the pressure.
